If you are like me, you are always thinking about keeping your kids safe. Even at home, I find myself doing my best to make sure that my kids are safe online and on their devices. There are so many horrible things lurking around the internet that I hope to keep away from my kids for as long as possible and most of the time, they are only a couple clicks away.

Some of my kids have iPhones and I have loved the way you can use Screen Time to filter out things like mature content and apps that could be used the wrong way. I like being able to set time limits and monitor apps that are downloaded. But even Screen Time has its limits. Either by design or by flaw, as hard as I have tried, I could not keep YouTube out of the way. I could set up a time limit for only 1 minute of use but couldn’t keep it gone totally. There are so many dangerous things on there that kids shouldn’t see, and I have struggled to keep them off of devices. Even the filters don’t seem to be able to block it.

I recently went on a journey to find a good way to filter using external devices and/or subscriptions. I discovered that the wireless router I have been using offers a level of filtering for free and also has a paid service as well. It has been a game-changer for filtering all of the devices in our house including our Roku devices, laptops, gaming consoles, tablets, and phones.

There is no perfect solution, and every household has different needs. Please let me know if you have found a good option as I am ALWAYS looking to improve and take care of my family. You know what “they” say, “It takes a village.” 🙂
