Does anyone else have a child that would NEVER stop playing video games if you didn’t cut the power and/or internet? In a house with 6 kids, we have our share of them. In fact, there are times when the best way to track down all of them is to simply shut off the internet and then wait for them to come out of the woodwork, shielding their eyes from the blinding light source that we call, “sun”.

One way we have found to combat the runaway gamers is by using the Nintendo Switch! We have a couple systems in our house with different accounts set up on them and our kids love them. As a parent, this has been the easiest system to monitor by far. It has a Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app that is so easy to use. It allows you to set up daily time allowances and restriction levels based on the individual users. There are times, like the summer months that I will allow a certain amount of daily time for playing. Then there are also times when it is completely restricted and I decide when they can use it and for how long manually.

The Switch is also great for family trips! It can be used as a handheld device or plugged into a TV for family usage. We have connected ours to a projector for family nights and enjoyed a whole evening of games together.

As as dad, it has grown increasingly harder to monitor what our kids are exposed to. Truth be told, I am spending more time these days helping my kids understand and decipher what they should allow THEMSELVES to be exposed to. However, the Nintendo Switch and the Switch Lite (a strictly handheld console) have made it easier to have a handle on video game usage. I have appreciated the ease of use with simple controls and menus. It is a stark difference from all of the other options that are out there today that seem to TRY to make it harder to use parental controls.

If you are looking for a gaming console that you want to be able to control and even lock down when necessary, I strongly suggest the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.
